5 out of 5 stars: Bodies Arising is a highly accessible follow up to Dr. Nicole Schnackenberg’s academic book; False Bodies, True Selves. Drawing on both her clinical research and personal experience, Nicole offers the reader insight into how to see body image struggles in the context of a spiritual journey—one that can ultimately lead to healing and integration. I was particularly struck by the chapter on metaphor, where Nicole describes dialoguing with her own sense of ‘Ugliness’, and being surprised to find it’s true nature was not what she initially perceived. I would also say that the book is an equally valuable resource for those looking to support a loved one struggling with their body. It is both a practical guide and a source of inspiration—as Nicole is so open about her own struggles and how she ultimately came to find freedom and live a fulfilling life. ~ Richard Cox, Amazon
Nicole Schnackenberg's beautiful book 'Bodies Arising' will help many people rediscover their true self and heal their struggles with body acceptance and self-love. ~ Dr. Ramdesh Kaur, author of The Body Temple: Kundalini Yoga for Body Acceptance, Eating Disorders, and Radical Self-Love
Nicole Schnackenberg skillfully and compassionately presents a pathway to healing and hope for sincere practitioners ready to move into a more expanded understanding of who they are and what it means to live in a body. This book is an excellent addition to the growing body of work aimed at dismantling the damaging imperatives of culture and the painful consequences of spiritual hunger. ~ Christina Sell, author of Yoga from the Inside Out: Making Peace with Your Body and My Body is a Temple: Yoga as a Path of Wholeness
