Arts & humanities, Bible study guides
Most Christians have some idea of what is meant by fundamentalism and they don't like it. But many would find it hard to articulate what they do believe about the Bible. They are mostly unaware of the revolution in how the Bible may be understood that has taken place over the last two hundred years. This book seeks to share the fruits of the Biblical revolution in an easily accessible manner. It seeks to inform you of its main features and to encourage you to do your own thinking and come to your own conclusions.

A liberating experience. There is a great deal of factual information. The difficult questions are not avoided. Roy Robinson does not pretend that the Bible is always historically accurate or morally admirable. He has no time for a simplistic fundamentalism that trivialises the concept of inspiration. But from a critical position he offers a strong defence of the Bible as the church's main source of authority. ~ , Reform
This is a worthy book on its subject, being readable but at times leaving you wanting more. On which happy note, the books and authors listed under "Trustworthy Scholarship", and in the bibliography, would kep most people going for further study for several years! ~ , Universalist
This book is not only "thoughtful" as its title implies, it is lively and very well written. Every page is stimulating and helpful. Roy Robinson has used his deep learning and broad experience to introduce a wide range of readers to the joys of serious engagement with the Bible's message for our times. ~ Professor Graham Stanton, Lady Margaret Professor of Divinity, University of Cambridge
