5 Star rating: I have just read Tim Ward’s latest book (only 73 pages) called "Virtually Speaking: Communicating at a Distance,” which is one of several books with authors he has brought together to address resilience in a world of climate change, global upheaval, and a pandemic in a virtual world. When you make any presentation to an audience now in our virtual world, Tim and his wife, Teresa, give you clear, fun, updated, and excellent specific illustrations to change the way an audience will pay attention to you and not be bored. Tim makes the valid point: ”No attention, no retention.” Change takes place in the listener's mind. Now I know first-hand why he is in such demand as a communicator. ~ Ben Wagener, Amazon
5 Star rating: As an expert in decision making and risk management, I've seen too few leaders recognize the special challenges of communicating effectively in virtual settings. This book provides the solution to those who are savvy enough to recognize these dangers. I especially appreciated the practical and pragmatic tips that leaders - and anyone - can use immediately in preparing for both high-stakes and day-to-day virtual communication. This book is a necessary tool for anyone who wants to communicate effectively in the context of pandemic and the post-pandemic world. And make sure to check out the authors' previous book, The Master Communicator’s Handbook, which I found highly useful for improving my in-person and written communication. ~ Gleb 11, Amazon
5 Star rating: As an author and frequent presenter who is suddenly faced with the medium of Zoom, this book is my go-to guide. I read it in one sitting, soaking up the advice that the authors, who are world-renowned communications experts, offered in clear and entertaining prose. As I forge ahead with my own presentations, I find myself going back to the book again and again to help me discover what works and what doesn’t! If your new reality is largely a virtual one, take a break from your presentation prep now and read this book! ~ Melanie in Maryland, Amazon
5 Stars: They have done it AGAIN! Teresa Erickson and Tim Ward bring their vast experience speaking live in front of audiences, and now virtually online, to the topic of "communication." Their "The Master Communicator's Handbook" is a practical, step-by-step guide to making in-person presentations. "Virtually Speaking" brings some of the best of the previous book and applies it to the virtual world online. They include tips on taking and answering questions, preparing slides for small screens, and using tools like polling. Don't like how your jowls look while you are on Zoom? Put your computer on a box (or lose lots of weight). They keep bringing the reader back to their main point—it is all about "impact" not vast amounts of information. I have traveled around the country speaking for 25 years and now with engagements canceled and little prospect of institutions wanting to gather crowds together, at least for the next year, it is time to think differently. Save yourself some thinking and get this book. ~ Hank Dunn, Amazon
