Leadership, Motherhood, Success
At a time when so many are looking to reset their lives, Rebalance explores what it takes to truly thrive full-circle: as purpose-driven leaders, parents, partners, and citizens. With insight and humor, Rebalance tackles the perennial question of working women (and men) everywhere: Is it possible to do it all well or does something have to give? The authors draw on a decade of no-holds-barred conversations with an ambitious group of women striving to lead in social impact jobs, raise good kids, and build strong relationships and communities. Rebalance distills their hard-earned lessons on balancing - and rebalancing - amid an onslaught of ever-changing demands and priorities. Rebalance takes an unflinching look at the trade-offs, conflicts, and juggling acts inherent in our busy lives, and ultimately illuminates how time-tested principles and practices can free us not just to survive but also to thrive.

During the COVID pandemic, many people were forced into making some serious changes in their lives. Women were almost immediately thrust into a world vastly different to their daily lives, taken out of boardrooms, offices, careers, and their own businesses to become homeschool parents and much more. Both men and women found themselves floundering in a sea of unknown quantities and for many, they discovered they simply had to take stock of not just their lives, but their career pathways. Many were for the first time, spending longer with their children and spouse than perhaps ever before and realised that one of the most important aspects of their lives was family. How to change, to be able to manage the massive variations that entered their and many others’ lives, was something Monika Brand Engel, Lisa Neuberger Fernandez and Wendy Jagerson Teleki all women of high standing in the Corporate world, all three mothers and wives, needed to take on board and look at a positive way forward, not just for them but for the many others who were, in their words, ‘forced to take stock.’ They began writing Rebalance at the beginning of the pandemic, eventually concluding the book as there was some hopeful evidence that life was returning to what is now called the ‘new normal.’ Their findings have created a new respect for the role of the working mother, the very real need in people’s lives of establishing boundaries, listening, setting up networks to both support and encouragement, and have a voice to be able to challenge long-held assumptions about the woman’s role in the modern world. Empowering, encouraging and full of wonderful tips on what to do and not to do, Rebalance: How Women Lead, Parent, Partner and Thrive is a long overdue book for not just women in business, but women who work in any form of enterprise worldwide. Lisa Neuberger Fernadez was about to leave for Paris to attend an important UN event when she suddenly became very ill and had to go to hospital. It was a wake up call that made her reassess her life and priorities and made her realise the importance of caring for her health. Now she does ten-minute guided meditations using Headspace and she shares them with her team. The chapter on health in this book contains extremely useful advice about caring for your health when you have a busy life and career and it was my favourite chapter in the book. However, the whole book has helpful tips about how to succeed in your career whether you are an entrepreneur or working for a company. It also covers just about everything else, including how to have happier relationships with your partner and children, how to live in accordance with your values, and how to find community. It is written by a group of mothers, though, so they concentrate on combining a successful career with motherhood, and it is also mostly useful for young, ambitious women who want to advance in their careers. I recommend this book if you want to combine a career with motherhood and find more balance in your life. ~ Lisa - BOOKADDICTION, https://bookaddiction.blogspot.com/2022/05/rebalance-how-women-lead-parent-partner.html

Rebalance holds true for our individual lives and serves as a mantra for how to change our economy as a whole - towards one where business serves society and not the reverse. ~ Saskia Thais Bruysten | Co-Founder & CEO Yunus Social Business
Finally, a roadmap for working mothers and fathers seeking to balance meaningful careers, raise good children, give back to society and practice self-care in an ever-changing world. In Rebalance, Lisa, Monica, and Wendy beautifully articulate a paradigm for understanding what each of us want out of life when it comes to family, work, friendships and more – and how to adjust when those desires evolve over time. ~ Nancy Cordes, Chief White House Correspondent, CBS News
For leaders looking to amplify their impact, this is a “must read” book. It offers authentic accounts that many people are experiencing or will experience in their careers. Macaulay, Founder-CEO, WILD Network; Adjunct Professor, McDonough School of Business, Georgetown University
The great thinker Khalil Gibran said "Work is love made visible." The stories and lessons of Rebalance are an inspirational guide for how to achieve a complete overlap of the personal and the professional, and for how to be reflective on the paths we pursue and those we intentionally leave behind. ~ Mona Mourshed, Founding Global CEO, Generation
Every executive with young children strives for balance and to make it all work. Rebalance is a recipe for getting it done – excelling at work, being present for family, and carving out time for oneself. ~ Ellen Weinreb, Managing Director, Weinreb Group Sustainability Recruiting
This book is coming at an important time as we emerge from cocoons after a pandemic, lifting the veil behind how working mothers combine it all and thrive. It is not easy to attain excellence in work, family and children let alone thrive during the process. Thank you to Wendy, Lisa and Monica for their authentic honest reflections so we can learn from the very relevant experiences of three working women road warriors. ~ Momina Aijazuddin, Global Head Microfinance, IFC
The phrase “work-life balance” is one of my biggest pet peeves: It suggests a 50/50 equilibrium that leads you inevitably to do each side poorly. In Rebalance, you’ll instead learn about “the edge of the wheel” – an incredibly useful tool to gauge and manage your ever-shifting priorities among work, community, family, and self. This inspiring, accessible, and informative book written by three pioneering women will give you the permission to pursue a life of meaning, the courage to take risks, and, yes, the license to THRIVE! ~ Linda Rottenberg, Author of Crazy Is a Compliment: The Power of Zigging When Everyone Else Zags. CEO and Co-Founder, Endeavor
In 2010, a group of ambitious, socially conscious women came together in DC. Their goal was to help each other balance a family-focused life with meaningful careers. Drawing on their stories of success and setbacks over a decade, the three authors share their "aha" moments, their lessons learned and help us feel that anything is possible as long as we follow our "true north." I recommend it to any woman (or man) seeking to live life with purpose. ~ Stephanie J. Miller, author of Zero Waste Living: the 80/20 Way and former Director, IFC Climate Business Department.
