In his latest book, One Big Box of 'Paranormal Tricks’? From Ghosts to Poltergeists to the Theory of Just One Paranormal Power, John Fraser reflects on his motivations for involvement in paranormal research from an early age, recalling his experiences to date, the people who have influenced him, and the conclusions he's come to.
Whilst Fraser refers to events in his life, this book is not a memoir or 'life story' in any conventional sense. It's presented as a meditation on what the paranormal might mean for us in our universal quest to give our lives meaning. One Big Box of 'Paranormal Tricks’? takes more of a zen-&-the-art-of-spending-a-night-in-a-haunted-house approach than an autobiographical one.

John’s book whirls through his experiences and hypotheses investigating this fascinating topic touching on subjects such as the ethics involved, hypnotic regression, poltergeist phenomena and good old fashioned paranormal research. From his earlier days at university right up until how this book was written, John explains how investigating the paranormal is never a straightforward path with his accounts filled with balance and often providing a thought - and yet allowing the reader to make up their own mind. This book is like opening John’s mind and having a chance to poke about, ultimately understanding what makes this man tick, all the while sprinkled with the Fraser humour throughout. He’s certainly an individual we shall be reading about in many years to come. ~ Beth Darlington, Director Access Paranormal Website, Paranormal Journalist, Podcaster
John takes us on a journey through an ordinary life which has been enchanted by following the spirit of a scientific and enquiring mind. Stepping outside of the mainstream, mundane world John has discovered himself wandering along the often unexplored avenues of our world which journey into a ‘paranormal life’ towards the possibility of a paranormal theory of everything. Along the way, we learn of his encounters with some of ghost hunting’s great names. We discover some of the investigations he has been involved in, and his knowledgeable use of measuring equipment, both old and new. He reveals his Sherlockian approach to investigating, which helps eliminate possible everyday causes when pursuing the causes of alleged paranormal phenomena. John shows the importance of knowing not just the background history of places and persons involved in cases, but also the limitations of the equipment used in investigations. The importance of being alert to the pastoral implications of performing investigations, no matter what may appear to be happening at a location appears throughout. ~ Matt Arnold, Editor, The Christian Parapsychologist Journal
