Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I’m obsessed with all things Persephone. She is such an intriguing figure; Goddess of Spring & Queen of the Underworld. Though this book is short it is packed full of simple, straight-forward information. If you’re interested in Persephone I highly recommend this book. ~ Jamie Sutch (Educator) , NetGalley
I have reviewed several titles in the Pagan Portals series and am impressed at the quality of writings and the in depth approach taken by the authors to whatever the subject matter may be. Persephone: Practicing the Art of Personal Power by Robin Corak fulfills all of those statements with a bit more. As I write this the world is grasped in the fear and uncertainty of the COVID-19 virus. Many are feeling less than empowered and the transitions of dark and light creep in ever closer to a blending of cautious action and impatience that we have not progressed further. With that being said, the timing of this book; one that takes the reader into the journey of claiming personal power couldn’t have been better played. We are treated to eight (8) chapters exploring the role of Persephone in many of her known guises as well as those less considered. Robin Corak has crafted an exploration that includes myth, research and opportunity to employ techniques and ritual to foster within the reader a deeper understanding of this resilient and power goddess; and always keeping the goal as one of encouraging a similar path of Divine power for yourself. Additionally, journaling and the prompts that require a more reflective approach, tease out the bits of wisdom that already are seeding within as you find the points of resonance between Persephone and yourself......................... I am always encouraging of any work that creates a template that is not simply transformative, but is actually rooted in work achieved and authenticity in its application. Persephone: Practicing the Art of Personal Power by Robin Corak stirs the desire to know more and in so doing provides the valuable lesson that all myths, gods/desses have so much more to offer in the telling of their stories if we are receptive and embrace all aspects of our being. The exercises, readings and citings are filled with seeds of Spring’s awakening and much like the Goddess herself, we are reminded that no journey is charmed; that hard work, tending and reaching into the underworld is necessary to allow for rebirth. If you are ready for that journey, than this is the book for you. ~ Robin Fennelly, PaganPages.Org
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. I really liked this book. Knowing Persephone's story at face value, it is nice to delve deeper and to get a better understanding of the goddess. Would definitely read more of the Pagan Portals to learn more about the gods and goddesses. ~ Jonnelle Smith (Reviewer, NetGalley
A powerful tool to reclaim control, sovereignty and independence in our lives. The myth of Persephone sparks a light in every person who has felt controlled and bullied, and the author offers a complete image of how She and Her stories can help in today's world. I liked how simple and straight-forward it is! ~ Kyler B. Warhol, NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. I thought this book was a really useful and thought provoking guide to the Greek goddess Persephone, looking at her dual roles as Goddess of Spring and Queen of the Underworld. It includes an in-depth review of her myth and what is known of the Eleusinian mysteries historically as well as chapters on the goddess's archetypal qualities, such as power and discernment, viewed through psychological self development lens. I liked that every chapter included guided meditations and journalling prompts to enable the reader to connect with their inner Persephone. The final chapters detailing different magickal ways of connecting with the goddess such as via food, making your own divination marbles and incense recipes were a lovely touch. This is an excellent and thorough guide, ideal for self reflection and self discovery. ~ Michelle Wood (Bookseller), NetGalley
..........In this short book Robin Corak provides an introduction to the Greek Goddess Persephone, including variations on the myth and the importance of the Rites of Eleusis and the Underworld journey. It is subtitled ‘Practicing the Art of Personal Power’ and includes a number of guided meditations, rituals, and journal prompts focusing on developing a relationship with Persephone. There are also recipes for incense, bath teas, and anointing oils. She includes how to create a personal divination system named Persephone’s Seeds of Wisdom. Another chapter contains suggestions for creating a feast in Persephone’s honour; as might be expected there are pomegranates involved. While I have not heard of Robin Corak before reading this, she appears to have a solid background in paganism and as a priestess. The book is well researched with references noted throughout...... ~ Vivienne O'Regan (Reviewer), NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. This is a powerful book full of story and imagery and most of all, a beautiful way of bringing the stories of this goddess to life. I especially loved the retelling of the story from Persephone’s voice… I have never heard anything like that before and I have read a lot about the goddesses. Also, the guided imagery and journaling questions were especially helpful to me on this journey. I highly recommend this book to any woman who looked deeply into her life, or any man who cares about a woman who looked deeply into her life. ~ Anne Marie Bennett (Reviewer), NetGalley
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars. Love it. Specifically I enjoyed the storytelling followed by journaling activities for engaging with the material. Having delved briefly into stories of Persephone as a goddess archetype I was interested to see how this book would expand on the topic. I wasn't expecting the writing activities and they won me over as they provided opportunities to contemplate the material and internalize the lessons of the Persephone archetype. ~ C.R. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. I thought I knew about Her but after reading this book, I have a new perspective. Although it is only about one hundred pages, it is full of information. At the end of each chapter are journal exercises that are thought provoking. There are guided meditations to work with Persephone and the Ancestors. There is a chapter on divination that is especially good. The directions to make your own divination seeds are easy to follow. I especially like the divination with the bay leaves. The author did a wonderful job listing her references throughout the book. She did a thorough job with her research. I highly recommend this book to any This is an excellent book for anyone that works with or wants to work with Persephone. Plus, this is the perfect time of year to connect with Her. ~ Dawn Thomas (Reviewer), NetGalley
A much more thorough book than it’s mere 9 chapters implies. Persephone, practicing the art of personal power combines examining the myth of Persephone, ancient Greek history and rituals and encourages the reader to reflect on their own personal journey by resonating with Persephone s tale............In my personal opinion, this is a very deep yet fascinating book that requires a lot of time to fully process and enjoy. It is educational yet self exploratory, not recommended for someone who would just be wanting to know more about the myth but a fantastic aid for those wishing to heal with the help of a goddess by their side. ~ Lorraine Elgar (Reviewer) , NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. This book is divine perfection! I thoroughly enjoyed it! Finally a perspective that's based on Persephone only! It was honestly refreshing to see a book that finally resonates with my perspective on Persephone as well.. I love that the author acknowledges different perspectives on the story of Persephone, not to mention you can see that it is well researched. and sees her as the victor and not the victim. I also appreciate the meditations she offered inside the book. My only con is that I wish the cover was different. But, I will purchase this book! ~ Chan Thompson (Reviewer), NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. ......... This book is wonderful in that it takes you on a journey to meet the Goddess and learn about yourself at the same time. Anyone interested in Greek myth or wanting to reclaim a part of themselves they feel is missing, will find this book a treasure trove of ideas and practical methods. Food ideas, celebrations, and ritual are given for the seeker to follow. Really a well thought out way to use myth to be more grounded and alive. ~ Patrick Carmen (Reviewer), NetGalley
Rating: 5 out of 5 stars............I relate very strongly to Persephone and loved the author’s own personal journey with this goddess. At the end of each chapter journal prompts were included and some guided meditations and rituals were also included as additional exercises. I absolutely loved this book and I believe working with Persephone and her mythos can offer many rewards, but most importantly, autonomy and greater self-awareness. ~ Tanja Flanjak (Reviewer), NetGalley

Emerging from the Underworld and revealing Her glory both in Darkness and in Light, the mysteries of Persephone come alive in Robin Corak's fantastic addition to Moon Books' Pagan Portals series. Equal parts research and devotion, mythos and psychology, Persephone: Practicing the Art of Personal Power is as juicy as a pomegranate, and its yield is just as bountiful. A short volume by design, the book nevertheless delves deeply into Persephone's mythos, and lays out a full harvest of tools and workings for modern-day practitioners who wish to enter into relationship with Kore of the Flowering Spring, who is also Queen of the Underworld and a central figure in the Eleusinian Mysteries. A dazzling array of offerings can be found in these pages: ritual, divination, inner journeys, journaling prompts, and even instructions for putting together a ceremonial feast in honor of Persephone. There is something for everyone in this book, which will be of interest to long-standing devotees of Persephone as well as those feeling newly-called to work with this powerful Goddess who helps us to walk a path of empowerment. - Jhenah Telyndru, founder of the Sisterhood of Avalon and author of Pagan Portals - Rhiannon: Great Queen of the Celtic Britons ~ Jhenah Telyndru
"Persephone" explores an often overlooked aspect of Pagan practice and life itself. We speak of Love and Light, but Persephone herself embodies Love and Darkness - finding her own power, seeking her deep truths, and so teaching others in turn. We all face challenges, but Persephone asks us to see them (and ourselves) from a new perspective. Like Her, you will return from this book changed, and definitely for the better. Please do seek it out. Cat Treadwell Druid Priest and Author of ‘Facing the Darkness’ ~ Cat Treadwell
In my own rites of passage work with women Persephone is a powerful ally, so I was excited to learn about this book. After we make our journey to the Underworld, our soul and human life forever straddle two worlds. We step into our power and reclaim personal sovereignty – the subject of this powerful book. The paradox is that we can bring things to light only by making the journey into the deepest darkness of the unknown, of death and dismemberment. Not just that, we must we commit to making this journey over and over if we are to continue peeling away the layers of our own shadow and unveil our authentic or true self. In Persephone: The Art of Personal Power, Robin Corak shows us the way as an initiate! - Imelda Almqvist, international teacher of Sacred Art and Northern Tradition Shamanism, author of Natural Born Shamans: A Spiritual Toolkit for Life and Sacred Art: Where Art Meets Shamanism, http://www.shaman-healer-painter.co.uk/ ~ Imelda Almqvist
Robin Corak has crafted a gem worthy of Persephone in all Her multi-faceted glory. Clearly informed by meticulous scholarship, this book is a thought-provoking foray into the myth of Persephone and the Eleusinian Mysteries, inviting the reader to gain greater self-awareness of his or her own movement beyond dependence and helplessness to empowerment and choice. Deceptively slim, there is a lot packed into Persephone. Presenting brilliant pathwork from Kore to Queen; the refreshing and deeply moving perspective of Persephone’s tale told in Her own voice; and insightful journal questions, this book contains everything you need to open to a meaningful relationship both with the Goddess and with self. Particularly inspired and deeply relevant is Ms. Corak’s weaving in the thread of Persephone’s connection with the ancestors. At a time when there is as much focus on releasing ancestral karma as there is on healing personal trauma, this is an important and timely book. Alongside all the aspects of Persephone that make it a powerful guide to self-determination, there are ample practical suggestions for deepening a connection with this complex Goddess. The Discernment Divination, the rituals, and the list of correspondences are fantastic. And, in a book that is chock full of compelling reasons, the presentation of a feast (with recipes) to honour Persephone, is reason enough by itself to snap up this book. Whether you have worked with Persephone for years or are just coming to explore a relationship with this Goddess now, Persephone: Practicing the Art of Personal Power is a guide that highlights all the significant signposts and compelling stops along the journey. A book any psychopomp would be happy to call Hers. ~ Tiffany Lazic, author of The Great Work: Self-Knowledge and Healing Through the Wheel of the Year ~ Tiffany Lazic
