The moon and witchcraft go hand in hand. Lady Lunar has long been both a guide and a companion, a sign by which we mark time, all the while she gently aids us in our explorations into the self and magical workings. She is a reflection of not only the sun’s light but also the endless cycle of birth, life, death and rebirth. The ebbing and flowing energy of the moon influences our thoughts and emotions. Many people believe that this energy can also bring change and enhance our own lives, through knowing when and how to use it. On Her Silver Rays: A Guide to the Moon, Myth and Magick is a collection of science, myth, poetry, and ritual. It will guide you through working with the different phases of the moon in order to gain a better sense of wellbeing. Discover how best to harness the lunar energies for healing and emotional strength, as well as physical and mental wellness. Deepen your connection with Lady Lunar through making your own ‘moon water’, prayer beads, incense and anointing oils. Through the keeping of a lunar diary, learn how to effectively manifest and release with the endless changing energies of the moon. Create your own unique moon names regardless of where you live. When you are ready to take your moon magick deeper, this book will guide you through the differing astrological signs, cosmic events, including Blue and Black Moons, as well as working with both solar and lunar eclipses, and even how to make your own Kamea of the Moon. More than just another book about working with the moon, On Her Silver Rays: A Guide to the Moon, Myth and Magick is an informative guide to developing a deep ultimate connection with our night time companion.

I also liked the history of the lunar gods/goddesses. If you are interested in the moon and learning more about different areas, this book is interesting. Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. The terms “Moon magic” and “lunar living” have gotten to be as trendy as “manifestation”. That’s not necessarily a negative, but it can lead to an outpouring of information by people who might not be that well informed but want to jump on the bandwagon. I don’t find a lot of value in trendy. That is not the case with this book. I picked it up to review despite already owning several guides to working with the moon because I’m somewhat familiar with the author’s other work and she resonates with me. I was not disappointed and I’ll probably repeat this later: On Her Silver Rays is the most complete guide I’ve yet come across and ought to be in your library if you really want to understand how to work with the moon. This book goes well beyond correspondences for each full moon (which tends to be the lunar phase most books focus on). The author covers, in depth, each phase of the moon and how best to work with each one, including rituals and magical workings that can actually be done (i.e., they don’t require arcane ingredients). There’s also space given to the Dark Moon, my personal favorite time of the month and an often overlooked phase. The author dedicates a chapter to lunar phenomenon (including astrological significance when the moon moves through each sign), as well as a chapter each on moon magic, lunar correspondences, and a wrap-up of information not covered elsewhere, including recipes for lunar cakes that I am most definitely going to try. If there’s a topic that you want to delve into more, the resources section is brimming with further areas of study. As I said earlier, this may be the only resource on working with the moon you’ll need whether you just want to understand more about her rhythms or you’re already a lunar practitioner who wants more knowledge of the science behind lunar phenomenon or to incorporate new rituals into your practice. ~ Ann Dudzinski (Reviewer), NetGalley
"I think this book will be such a source of knowledge about our Lady of the Moon. The referencing and rituals will just add to the consciousness of anyone training in the magical arts. You will always learn something from any book that Frances has written, this one in particular, because of our close association with our emotions and the phases of the Moon. The talisman of the moon is a great place to start experimenting with Talisman magic. It has something for everyone, well done Frances." ~ Murray Langham, author of "Chocolate Therapy: Unwrap the Secrets of Your Inner Self", Facebook Post

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars. I adored Francis Billinghurst’s previous books so was excited to read her latest offering and it did not disappoint. On her silver rays has sections on cycles of change, lunar phenomenon, moon magic and lunar correspondences. It looks at the subject from a scientific, astrological and magical angle and is therefore a very comprehensive book on the subject. Being based in Australia, Francis also covers information regarding the southern hemisphere which is much appreciated as it is hard to come by pagan books that are not focused on the northern hemisphere. Francis writing style is easy to read and understand and because of that and this books comprehensive coverage of the subject I feel it would be suited to pagans at an stage of their journey from beignets to the most adept. ~ Emma Powick (Reviewer) , NetGalley

The moon has captivated us, enthralled us, guided us, and inspired us. Each phase holds significant meaning to those of us who work beneath the glow; governing the waters and the tides of our inner being. We attribute our emotions to the moon, and even the word ‘Lunatic’ is derived from the Latin ‘Luna’ which means moon. On Her Silver Rays has been an absolute delight to read, filled with lore and history that I’ve not learned before. Frances introduces the reader to both scientific and esoteric perspectives of the moon and her phases. This isn’t a book that involves just reading; it’s a practical workbook with exercises to follow that begin on the New Moon, including journal prompts and rituals. These exercises will help deepen your connection to the moon, and help the reader to understand the magic and ritual that can be performed during these times. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone with an interest in the Craft, who wants to deepen their ritual practice beneath the moon. Like a great teacher, Frances doesn’t give you the answers but guides you along the path so that you can see for yourself. ~ Aidan Bird

From cycles to correspondences, astrology to complete rituals, this book is perfect for moon devotees. Frances Billinghurst set herself the task of writing a book to honour the moon, and she should be proud of what she has achieved. The result is a scholarly book that is full of folklore, poetry, science, myth, and rituals, but it is written in a way that is accessible for readers of all levels. Providing information from philosophers, ancient astronomers, and modern scientists, ‘On Her Silver Rays’ is a reference book covering a diverse range of fields such as astronomy, astrology, mythology, healing, and divination. This book has a comprehensive list (and description) of the lunar gods and goddesses, explaining the importance of this heavenly body to the esoteric practices of modern pagans and witches. Frances celebrates the light of the moon when She is in the sky, and shows how to embrace the darkness of the self when She is hidden. The detailed description by Frances of one of her rituals is breathtakingly beautiful. ~ Don McLeod, author of Real Tarot: A Modern Approach to an Ancient Art
When I turned the last page of “On Her Silver Rays”, the new book by Frances Billinghurst, the word “extraordinary” came to mind. A big word but one that seems appropriate. But the book - a comprehensive, well-researched and practical guide to all things moon related, is not extraordinary in an other worldly way but rather because, despite the heavenly subject matter, the author keeps her feet firmly planted on the Earth as she gazes upward. “On Her Silver Rays” is simply the best book on the subject of moon magic that I’ve ever read. ~ Jimahl diFiosa, author of A Voice in the Forest, All the King’s Children, and A Coin for the Ferryman
On Her Silver Rays is a much-needed book in the misinformed millennial age, attesting that the moon is not the same for everyone, yet beholds a power and mystery we can all attain. Frances Billinghurst brings history, myth and magick together into one cohesive Lunar Ray of Wisdom. ~ E. Massey, author, teacher, and host of This Old Witch Podcast
