A salutary tale of what can happen if you give your power away to a guru or a group. The author has studied the Toltec tradition and is keen to apprentice herself to a Nagual, a spiritual leader along the lines of Don Juan or Don Carlos in the books by Carlos Castaneda. She finds a woman of power who accepts her as an apprentice, and commits herself to this path, and we see where it takes her, with her many struggles and vicissitudes, and the inevitable outcome. Good lessons for those starting out or about to start out on any spiritual path. ~ The Inner Light Magazine, Autumn Equinox 2015 ed. Volume 35 No.4
"Carry the Rock" is a poignant look at the process of spiritual birth—from the perspective of the apprentice emerging, often painfully, into a new world which extends far beyond the unanticipated limitations of one's teacher. The personal anecdotes are revealing and instructive and it is clear that Jessica made the leap to Freedom long before she realized it herself. As readers, we are blessed that she has taken the time to write of the good, the bad and the ugly which inevitably arise on the rocky road toward the evolution of a truly infinite Spirit. ~ Della Van Hise, author of Quantum Shaman: Diary of a Nagual Woman
