Prayer & spiritual, Rituals & practice, Tibetan
Ji Hyang Padma believes that we are hungry for a direct experience of the sacred in this culture. We try to fill the void with technology, and its “quick fix” of images and information. This leaves us hungry for true connectivity. We don’t need more information. We need more appreciation. Gratitude opens the heart, and gives our life meaning; it becomes a form of spiritual experience that gives us strength.
Field of Blessings explores how meaning-making can be approached by deep examination of the stories of our lives, which bridge the gap between the inner world and the outer world, giving shape to our experience. How can these narratives be spoken, written, or embodied? Ritual is the story brought-to-life, and a powerful vehicle for spiritual transformation, for reconnecting people with an embodied wholeness. Ji Hyang Padma shows that Chod, Medicine Buddha practices, and other Tibetan rituals are used by healers to evoke sacred energies, radical empathy, and to contact deep archetypal realms of the psyche.

An impressively informative, exceptionally thoughtful and thought-provoking contribution to the growing library of Buddhist Studies literature available to an American readership, "Field of Blessings: Ritual & Consciousness in the Work of Buddhist Healers" is an extraordinary and unreservedly recommended addition to personal, professional, community, college, and university library collections. It should be noted for students, academia, members of the Buddhist community, and non-specialist general readers with an interest in the subject. ~ Midwest Book Review
Dr Ji Hyang Padma’s brilliant book, Field of Blessings: Buddhist Healing Through the Field of Consciousness, pulls together the essential of Buddhist healing, rituals and practices in an accessible way for all to read. There is a wealth of information for those in the West who struggle to understand the various sects and practices of Buddhism while artfully relating it to the western mind and consciousness. I found Ji Hyang’s interviews with various Buddhist teachers and healers particularly illuminating. I highly recommend this book. ~ Dr. Ann Drake, author of Healing of the Soul: Shamanism & Psyche
In Fields of Blessings, Ji Hyang Padma provides a remarkable exploration and comprehensive research into traditional Buddhist healing practices. Within Ji Hyang Padma’s clear explanation she writes that although each Buddhist lineage has its own unique healing rituals we are working across lineages to identify the rituals that unite the practices. I found this book so engaging with seeds of truth about elements of healing that will enrich all who read this book. Fields of Blessings is a brilliant book that clears up so many misconceptions about Buddhist healing rituals. And what a better guide than Ji Hyang Padma who is a gifted Buddhist teacher, counsellor and healer. Throughout the book she illustrates how Buddhist healing practices reconnect clients to the ground of being and deepens their connection with the natural world. I was so impressed how Ji Hyang Padma’s knowledge clearly shines through as well as her deep love and commitment to the work. ~ Sandra Ingerman, award winning author of 12 books on shamanism including Soul Retrieval
Ji Hyang Padma’s Field of Blessings shows us traditional and modern Buddhist approaches to the mystery that the whole world is medicine. And, with that, invites us into exploring the actual realities of a holistic vision of healing both body and mind. This is an important book for all of us on the paths of healing. ~ James Ishmael Ford, author of Introduction to Zen Koans: Learning the Language of Dragons
If Mindfulness is a haiku on the tip of the iceberg of Buddhist healing tradition, Ji Hyang’s Field of Blessing reveals the stunning and awe inspiring depth of all that lies below. ~ Brett Bevell, author of Energy Healing for Everyone, and Reiki for Spiritual Healing
This is a book we have been waiting for. Ji Hyang Padma wrote a book which can be a major resource for awakening and healing for those who are on the spiritual path. Must Read! ~ Hyun Kyung Chung, Ph.D. Professor of Interfaith Engagement, Union Theological Seminary
Ji Hyang Padma knows the words of Buddhism, she also knows the music, and she writes in a clear and engaging way. This is an important book because it gives readers a factually accurate exposition on historical Buddhism, while also recognizing the practices and rituals of Buddhism are an empirically developed neurophysiology on altered consciousness. ~ Stephan A. Schwartz, author of The 8 Laws of Change
Going beyond familiar mindfulness practices to introduce readers to the vast repertoire of healing rituals found in traditional Buddhism Ji Hyang Padma‘s new book is aptly named. It will be a blessing not only for students and scholars but for individuals and healers across traditions as well as in my context as part of a multi-faith university chaplaincy. I appreciate having such a carefully researched accessibly written guide not only for understanding but for applying Buddhist practices in a world hungry for wholeness and healing. ~ Dr. Jennifer Howe Peace, Tufts University Chaplain
Field of Blessings: what a beautiful and fitting title for this book that examines the role of the field of consciousness in healing, with a particular focus on Buddhist Healing. Dr Ji Hyang Padma explains that when the absolute and universal nature of consciousness, Dharmakaya, the “substrate out of which all animate and inanimate forms arise”, is understood and consciously engaged with, then wholeness and true healing is found in every situation. This approach to healing knows implicitly that every human being is deeply related to every other human being, indeed, to all of life itself. In this setting, in addition to receiving the intended healing, the human being is also blessed with the realization that they are not only a part of the healing process but also part of the broader creation itself. This is the foundation of healing and spiritual well being. ~ Paul Mills, Professor of Family Medicine and Public Health Chief, Division of Behavioral Medicine Director
