Have you ever been through something so severely traumatic that you didn't know or maybe didn't want to know how to come back from it? You will relate. When Coco is severely injured in a car accident and wakes up after coding in the hospital, she's mad. She wishes they'd let her go where she'd felt at peace with no pain rather than pull her back to this hell she's going through. She's touched that everyone is thinking of her and sending her cards, but not before she's upset that her friend isn't in the hospital bed next to her. Worst of all, she's horrified to learn she may not be able to ever sing again. This book is well written and full of humor but also a lot of real pain and struggle. What a great YA novel. I am always in search of books in the YA genre that do not fall into the fantasy category. It is nice to have some variety for the younger folks (or an easier read for us older ones) that has a little something different. Written in the tune of a memoir, as it is based on a true story, it follows her through dying, and then learning to relive after such a traumatic even at a young age, one that affected her talents and dreams. Some of it was gut wrenching, some was lighthearted, and all of it was enjoyable. I would definitely recommend this book as a YA read for all ages. ~ Amy Wolf, NetGalley

This is one of my must reads for this year. The story of a young girl and her fight to regain her voice after a car accident is truly amazing. The author grabs your attention and doesn't let go. Coco didnt really fit in with her friends or classmates. Her mother was a little odd. Her father brutally let them for another woman with no remorse. Then there was the car accident that changed her life. I'm genuinely struggling to find the words to describe this book that will do it justice. I loved every single page of it. I actually adore Coco. I loved her relationship with her mother and the doctors. I loved how she reluctantly became someone she could depend on. I loved the love/hate relationship with Dr Kular. I feel like the accident, whilst traumatic and life changing, was a positive in Coco's life to make her really and truly appreciate her life. This is a book for teens and is very personal to the author as it is based on a true story. It is the story of Coco, who ends up in hospital after a car accident, where she suffers internal injuries including crushing her voice box. The ensuing months and years follow her struggles to regain her health, but also to see how her relationships with family and friends pan out.
