Mimi Thebo
Born in Kansas City, USA, Mimi Thebo moved to Lawrence, Kansas in her teens and still calls the university town her American home.
She met her husband near the end of her study at the University of Kansas, which whom she travelled and around the world and worked at Yellowstone National Park. After their ‘gap decade’ they moved to London in 1992. Thebo worked in journalism, marketing and office management while she wrote her third novel.
Thebo continued working on her third novel during the Bath Spa Creative Writing MA and her MA dissertation, The Saint Who Loved Me, was agented by David Riding at MBA and published by Alison and Busby.
Three books for children (Wipe Out, Hit the Road, Jack and Get Real) soon followed, as did a book for early readers (Drawing Together). All achieved great success - Wipe Out was made into a BAFTA award-winning film by the BBC and translated into French, and Drawing Together was translated into multiple languages.
During this time, Thebo began teaching for Bath Spa University and moved to the West Country with her husband, where they lived on a beautiful narrowboat until their daughter was born. Thebo wrote Welcome to Eudora and The Corner Booth Chronicles, as she realised that she would not be moving back to her beloved Kansas. She also achieved her PhD in Creative Writing in 2007.
Her next book, Dreaming the Bear, was published by Oxford University Press in February 2016, and is set in Yellowstone National Park.
