5 out of 5 This was an interesting, well-written, and helpful book. Although I’m not Irish, I have always had some interest in Celtic paganism, and I was curious to see what this book would contain. I appreciated that each rite/prayer is presented in dual languages, so it’s still accessible if you only speak English. I found the explanation of the rites the most interesting, going into why/how they would each be used. Although I knew the basics of the festivals mentioned, I learned about some new rites that I wasn’t aware of, and that I plan on incorporating into my own celebration of those holidays. For further reading, there’s a list of resources at the very end, if you’d like to delve deeper. Absolutely have to recommend. ~ Liliyana Shadowlyn, https://lshadowlynauthor.com/2024/02/23/review-pagan-portals-the-irish-pagan-book-of-rites/
The Irish Book of Rites is unique, a dual language text that offers evocative rituals in both English and Irish. A wonderful way to connect to your spirituality across the tides of the year; truly something that all Irish pagans should have on their shelf. ~ Morgan Daimler, author of Irish Paganism and Gods and Goddesses of Ireland
The author has done an incredible amount of research into traditions and folklore to bring us a beautifully written book on Irish Pagan prayers and rites of all kinds. Fascinating to read and very useful to work with, including the use of dual language. Very impressive. ~ Rachel Patterson, Witch and author of Pagan Portals The Cailleach, Beneath the Moon and Witchcraft into the Wilds
John McLoughlin has created a much needed Pagan Irish devotional based in genuine Irish culture and history that will be of interest to anyone with ancestry from the far flung Irish and Celtic diaspora, world-wide. A book like this one should be required reading for any aspiring Druid or Celtic Pagan who seeks to perform rituals based in ancient tradition. I will certainly be recommending it to my students. ~ Ellen Evert Hopman, Archdruid of Tribe of the Oak, and author of the Druid trilogy of novels
In this beautiful collection of rites, McLoughlin has worked hard to preserve not only the traditions of pagan Ireland, but the original language in which they would have been performed. While the English versions lend flexibility to modern readers, the Irish renditions really bring out the joy and reverence so essential to effective spiritual practice. ~ Logan Albright, author of Libertarian Paganism and Conform or Be Cast Out: The (Literal) Demonization of Nonconformists
