Digital photography has made photography accessible to all and, even if you have a mobile phone camera, it is possible to take publishable pictures. Photography for Writers explains the basics of digital photography, the different markets available to writers with a camera, how to submit their images, what to do with their images afterwards, how to use photography for research purposes, and even how to get photos to illustrate your articles if you don't have a camera.

5.0 out of 5 stars A book every writer should have on their shelf 10 May 2014 This is a straight forward book about using photography to sell more of your work. If you haven't thought about it before, then this book is a worthwhile investment. From explaining how to improve the images you take by careful positioning, to making it easier on yourself to keep track and quickly locate your digital images, this is going to help you improve. I liked the sections on using images for magazines and non-fiction books, plus the other options for using your pictures. I finished reading with lots of possibilities to pursue, and a different way of looking at the images I take. This book is good value. ~ CarolB, Amazon.co.uk
This book gives great advice for the writer who also wishes to illustrate their articles with photographs. These days, photos are usually required by editors when submitting an article, so it makes sense to be able to supply them. The book is written in Simon Whaley's usual clear and friendly style, and the price is very reasonable. ~ Rosemary B, Amazon.co.uk
Suzanne Ruthven - Author and editor of Writer's Wheel magazine A picture is supposed to paint a 1000 words and can often be the clincher in selling articles as Simon ‘Positively Productive’ Whaley explains in Photography For Writers: Using photos to sell more of your words. This little gem reveals that digital photography has made photography accessible to all and, even if you only have a mobile phone camera, it is possible to take publishable pictures. It explains the basics of digital photography, the different markets available to writers with a camera, how to submit their images – and even how to get photos to illustrate your articles if you don’t have a camera. Surprisingly, there are no photographs included in the text but the author gets around this by organising a website to accompany his book: www.photography-for-writers.blogspot.co.uk This best selling author really does think of everything – so follow his lead. ~ Suzanne Ruthven, Amazon and Goodreads
It's given me confidence to go out and play with my camera and approach editors with articles I wouldn't have done before. Now my compact camera is next to my notebook at all times - I snap away then go back with a meatier camera if needed. ~ Christine Muir, Writer
If you ever doubted your ability to take publishable pictures, this book will boost your confidence and change your mind. Photography for Writers covers all the basics in simple language, peppered by Simon’s usual touch of humour. A must for all writers keen to please editors and increase their income. ~ Solange Hando, member of the British Guild of Travel Writers
