Nigel Peace began to experience the paranormal regularly as a child. There were frequent powerful dreams that proved to be precognitive, so he taught himself to recall and record his night-time adventures. Becoming naturally mindful, long before the concept became fashionable, he also became aware of many everyday synchronicities, some of them quite incredible yet always meaningful, guiding him in everyday life.

Alongside a traditional education, leading to degrees in Science and Philosophy - his university thesis on the philosophy of Parapsychology was the first of its kind - he embarked on a lifelong study of human consciousness, exploring a wide range of religions, scientific theories and New Age beliefs with an open mind yet always with a scientist's natural scepticism. With careers in tourism, social welfare and, especially, school teaching, he was grounded in everyday life and all the challenges that people face. This often felt uncomfortable, as though he was living with one foot in each of two very different worlds, one material and orthodox, the other metaphysical. For example, while becoming a senior school teacher specialising in Mathematics, he also trained to become a Reiki Master Teacher.

What drove him throughout was a deep desire to interpret paranormal and spiritual experiences, to help others recognise the power of their minds and to judge what is important and what is not. His first book documented his experiences of dreams, synchronicities and the I Ching; it was warmly endorsed by Dr Rupert Sheldrake as "...vivid and fascinating... pioneering research..." and was national runner-up in The People's Book Prize. He also contributed many articles to magazines, describing both paranormal and scientific thinking, always in down-to-earth language.

Several other books followed, both non-fiction and fiction, always expressing alternative views of consciousness. A comedy novel set in the afterlife challenged all 'conventional' beliefs about the human spirit. A guide to the the use and understanding of the I Ching, full of true examples and with the world's first glossary of the ancient book's symbolic phrasing, made this extraordinary divination system accessible to everyone. An historical romance novel and a collection of short paranormal stories followed.

After decades of learning, Nigel realised that he must put everything he had learned about the human mind and spirituality into one story that everyone can relate to, whatever their beliefs or none. It had to embody the full range of human experience, from everyday physical concerns to the deep calling of the soul. More than anything, it would present an entirely original theory of human consciousness.

At its heart, however, The Unbroken is a gripping adventure story of spiritual love that can never be denied.
