Bad Girl Pie is a dark comedy set in New York City. Dorothy Sherlock, a prolific ghostwriter, shares her running commentary on the absurdity of the human condition as she navigates her future. Until now, she's spent her life crafting other people’s success stories and mourning a failed romance. After a near-fatal encounter with her abusive father and his sudden death, Dorothy resolves to write her own book, blending her expertise in dieting and dessert. A whirlwind trip to a tango festival in Mexico reignites her passion for love through a romantic tryst with a tango-dancing firefighter.
Hopeful and happy, Dorothy returns home, only to discover that her agent has stolen the manuscript and sold it to a new client, and her late father has cut her out of his will. As if this weren't enough, Dorothy reconnects with her ex-boyfriend, but after a night of bliss, she finds out that he's living in sin with his cleaning lady. The triple whammy drives her to despair. Can Dorothy’s sense of humor and talent save her and help her find success?

TR Garland This book grabbed from the very beginning...and didn't let go until the very end! While most suspense novels might tell stories to shock & awe, Marilyn Horowitz tells stories to engage & enroll the reader into the possibilities of what her characters face. Should they, shouldn't they? Do they, don't they? Why, why not? What would I do, what wouldn't I do? It's a true ever-developing story of accepting Human Nature or trusting that when faced with extreme circumstances...the Nature of Humans will prevail. Curious Ms Horowitz addresses topics that I and probably many other people struggle with: what is the role of the church in our relationship with God, what is the role of God in our lives, and what is our responsibility to live our lives as our parents wish. Anything but a dry treatise on the subject, The Book of Zev wraps this conversation in an intriguing story full of mystery, interesting characters, and plot twists. An enjoyable read. Laura Steward I didn't know what to expect when I bought this book. What I got was a book I couldn't put down wrapped with an ending that left me wanting more. I loved how faith and questioning faith was an integral part of the book and that the characters were stronger for it. This book had wonderful layers to it. But most of all, for me, it had a gripping story that had what felt like elements of truth and possibility. (Possible spoiler alert) I hope nothing in the book is real or ever becomes real because that would mean the world is even in worse state than I'd like to believe possible. Yet good triumphs with faith and hope prevails at the end and I can finally go to sleep now that I have finished the book and hope prevails. If you want a book that will keep you up all night, get this one. Miami Beach & Boston This was an intriguing book. There were so many layers. Psychic power, what is our role in life, do some people have a mission placed on them by God, the true nature of Islam's goal in destroying Western society, is it true that nothing is a coincidence and everything is planned. A very compelling book. Abiah "The Book of Zev" is a quick and engaging read. I was particularly interested in the faith struggles of the main characters, Zev and Sarah. Both struggle with a religion that has failed them, and their struggles are sometimes funny, sometimes ironic, sometimes moving. The book throws twists and surprises at the reader as the story moves towards a potentially disastrous prophecy. Does God even exist? If so, does God control our fate? Do we? Is there such a thing as destiny? And how can Persian food be Kosher? Lots of questions, some answers, and a wild ride of a book! Novel Man This novel mixes elements of the supernatural with danger, love and international entanglements ripped from the headlines. It's also the story of two improbable people who nevertheless find love...and danger. No spoilers here, but a good read is guaranteed. Taylre Malloy Great Read! Well researched, thoughtfully written, asks the question what would ordinary people do when placed in difficult potentially historic circumstances. The book pulls you in and doesn't let you go. This is a great start to what I hope will be a long writing career for this author!! P. Murphy Wow! What a nail-biter! Just when you think you have what is happening figured out, you are thrown a new twist to the story. ...It's a well-constructed story. The parts that describe Sarah's cooking are mouthwatering, you can almost hear Zev's mother's voice nagging at him and see his father's disapproving frown. It's a slow burn of a novel, dependable in its telling, but possessing a solid payout at the end. ~ Axie Barclay, San Francisco Book Review

Marilyn Horowitz paints a rich picture of lapsed Jew, angels, and people having miraculous abilities to survive, foretell, and sometimes alter the future. Her book plays at the borders of the normal and the supernormal, of lust and faith, while focusing on each character’s struggles with his or her purpose in life. ~ Dennis Shasha, co-author of Iraq’s Last Jews
A New York City story, The Book of Zev by Marilyn Ida Horowitz (Koehlerbooks) is a lively dark comedy and mystery featuring an earnest dropout from religious life who becomes a taxi driver (title character, Zev), and a divorced kosher chef named Sarah who is angry at God and favors yoga and red wine. These two get entwined in an international terrorist plot and with each other. The author, who teaches screenwriting at NYU, creates characters on the borders of Jewish life with uncommon abilities to predict the future, all the while grappling with questions of faith and purpose. ~ The Jewish Week
