About the author
Teresa O’Driscoll, born in Cardiff, capital of Wales, spent a number of years working as a journalist in Athens, capital of Greece. It was there that she was inspired to write her book 9 Days to Heaven, How to make everlasting meaning of your life. Check out the book trailer on YouTube: http://youtu.be/154luv8KMns
She has now returned to her native city. In lockdown she kept sane by channelling a mishmash of emotions into writing. This proved a good move as she has had a further two books accepted for publication.
Her prayer guide, Pray Then Listen, A heart-to-heart with God, was released by Circle Books on 30th September 22. And her debut novel, Angel at the Paradise Hotel, set on the green and beautiful Greek island of Corfu – where her personal Odyssey began, will be released by Roundfire Books in Spring 23. Watch this space for more details coming soon.

The language of the prayers in this book is language we use every day—no special words or jargon required. That’s their genius: making the process of prayer, which can be so intimidating to so many people, as easy and natural as breathing.
Along the way, Teresa uses her approach to prayer as an entry point for many basic Christian practices, like Bible reading (using your imagination) and forgiveness. Moreover, by sharing so much of her own experience, she invites readers to see that we tiny humans can connect with the God of the universe—and that God wants to connect right back.
John Backman, writer and spiritual director, Why Can’t We Talk? Christian Wisdom on Dialogue as a Habit of the Heart
There seems to me to be a lot of emphasis on physical preparation for prayer. Many of the meditations begin with instructions like this: “Sit with your back straight and close your eyes. Exhale fully and take a slow in-breath. Hold it for a few seconds and breathe out and feel tension leaving with it. Then say the following prayer.” As with many of the suggestions in the book, some may find these directions useful while others may not. I do appreciate the author’s reaction to the question as to why bad things happen: “Many years ago, after going through an extremely testing time related to a close relative, I eventually made the decision to put that question aside….I don’t know why bad things happen. But I decided to keep putting my trust in my loving Heavenly Father.” I also applaud her stand on the Bible: “Although written thousands of years ago, the Bible, a collection of books, is as fresh and as relevant today as it was then.” There is much interesting reading in this “prayer guide.”
This book was given to me by the author, much appreciated.
As a born-again, spirit-filled believer, my only struggle was with one of the Catholic teachings she introduced that I personally can’t endorse scripturally, specifically the notion of praying for the dead. My concern is that people in cultures that encourage idolatry or ancestor worship could trade Biblical truths with doctrines that are not scripturally sound (2 Timothy 4:3-4).
While I do not agree with some of the doctrines the author introduces, I think that “Pray, Then Listen” can be a tool for the young believer who has a spiritual covering with a solid command of scripture.

Pray Then Listen is an ideal introductory guide to prayer for the new Christian. It is organised under chapter headings and topical titles for ease of use and reference. It goes without saying that if you want to start a conversation with the Lord, it makes sense to train yourself to listen out for the answer, too. The author does this in an easy and accessible way. The language used is for the general reader, making this book an ideal guide for those starting on their Christian journey or for those who have so far been what I call cultural Christians who are investigating the Lord for the first time.
