"Welcome to the beautiful world of rainbows. Irisanya leads the reader through a kaleidoscope of information to this beautiful goddess, it is a captivating read."-Rachel Patterson - author of The Cailleach, Witchcraft into the Wilds and the Kitchen Witchcraft series
Irisanya Moon shines a bright light on the Greek goddess Iris, revealing her multi-faceted nature and importance in the world today. This book has many valuable aspects, including interpretations of her myths, a powerful meditation to encounter her, enlightening journaling activities, and a magical rainbow practice to experience the spectrum of Iris' energy. Moon's personal gnosis and accounts of her heartfelt, modern devotion are particularly illuminating, as there are few known ancient cultural practices related to Iris. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a deeper relationship with Iris.-Astrea Taylor, author of Intuitive Witchcraft and Air Magic

This book connected so many dots for me! Her connection to Somnos and her work as a messenger were things I was happy to get more context about. Then we get lovely journeys, rituals, and dedications to work with Iris from a high priestess! These are all excellent and I’m excited to intentionally deepen my relationship with Iris. I'm so happy I found this book! I know I will return to it often.
Highly Recommend!
I appreciate that the author was sincere enough to acknowledge that no on really knows how Iris would have been honored in antiquity. There is relatively little record left of how even the major Olympians would have been worshipped, much less of a “minor” character like Iris. So, most of the exercises, reflections, meditations, and such are based on the authors experiences of building her relationship with Iris. However, I found that Irisanya’s interpretation of her lived experience resonated with me in the way phenomenological truths tend to.
That isn’t to say that the suggested practices aren’t well structured (and poetic) - rather that it would be best to approach them with imagination and a sense of wonder (That’s pretty much the case with any ritual though!). While there are a few lists of correspondences and offering suggestions to help the reader get a feel for working with Iris, the author frequently includes gentle reminders to not get caught up in lists or the idea of doing it “right”.
The practices are based on attributes of the Goddess such as her speed, integrity, service, diplomacy, and her ability to travel throughout different realms and within liminal spaces. There’s a lovely framework for devotional practice based on the colors of the rainbow that I have enjoyed working with in particular.
My takeaway from working with this book has been more awareness of how I communicate with myself and others. I preordered the book when it was released last year and have read through it several times since. As a grad student, I can say that it’s been helpful to me in managing the imposter syndrome and writers block that seems to come standard with a career in academia. Working with Iris has helped me to see myself as someone with something worth saying, to understand communicating as a form of service, and to deliver my messages thoughtfully and with confidence.
