Such a GREAT book!!!!!
I got this book because I didn’t understanding The Alchemist. This book helped me understand what Alchemy really is. I won’t spoil it here but it’s not what a lot of people think. This book was by far one of my favorite books to read! I got a personally confirmation that what was in this book was true. I wrote notes, highlighted, doggy eared pages, and was saying YES throughout it. It’s a great read!!!!

The author was part of the editorial team that worked on the creation of the original book Paul Coelho’s The Alchemist. In his book he discusses how he met Paul Coelho and the research that went into that project. A particular interesting part of this book is the author's experiences in his own life and the changes that experience brought forth for him. His own process of transformation makes for fascinating reading and will help the reader connect with themselves through his experiences. His goal is inward empowerment through alchemy and he shares this journey vividly with his readers.

I highly recommend this outstanding body of work for all who read and were touched by The Alchemist. This author continues the alchemical transformation in every area of his life . This is one of my top three favorite books I have read this year. The writing is so intriguing to the subject that the author speaks to the reader and brings us along on his personal journey. You have a real sense of his knowledge and gratitude for this journey. Very well done to the author.

Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinions are my own.

I absolutely love Paulo Coelho’s books. I was assigned The Alchemist as a book for school a total of three times and I loved it more every time I read it. It sparked a loved for Coelho’s books in me and an interest in mindfulness. The principles that Coelho writes about really speak to me and I always walk away from his novels feeling that I have grown as a person. I can really relate to Colm’s, who is also inspired by Coelho’s works. This book, ‘The Secret of the Alchemist’ was a super interesting read. I loved how he used Alchemy as a real-world analogy for change and transformation. Inspired by and echoing ‘The Alchemist’, Colms book is a perfect pairing that inspires the reader to pursue their dreams!

This book was written to enable author Colm Holland to explain the deeper meaning of another book, “The Alchemist,” by Paulo Coelho. Mr. Holland has obviously spent many hours delving into “The Alchemist,” reading between the lines to find the real meaning behind the printed words.

True empowerment is the goal Mr. Holland espouses, and he states “It is yours for the taking if you truly want it. It is the treasure you will find when you follow your true destiny.” The author asserts that Mr. Coelho’s book is not a fable or another Hero’s Journey. It is “…about how all of us can tap into the power of ancient alchemy to create magic and change lives.”

Mr. Holland examines “The Alchemist” in sections, first giving a synopsis of the story and then sharing his interpretation of what author Coelho was trying to say. He then follows each explanation with a personal story of how he used the information to transform his own life.

I found most of the book interesting and something I could understand as it related to many of the self-help books I have read. The description of becoming an alchemist went in a different direction than I expected, and some of the points I am still having difficulty assimilating. As with any book on this subject, every reader will have to make up his or her own mind on whether or not to personally apply the teachings.

Overall, the book is well-written and Mr. Holland’s interpretation of “The Alchemist” is interesting. I have never read the other book but after reading this book I have it on order. Due to Mr. Holland’s excellent descriptions, one does not have to read it first before reading this book. Four stars.

My thanks to NetGalley and john Hunt Publishing for a complimentary electronic copy of this book.

The "The Secret of The Alchemist" is great in-depth reflection on the 'The Alchemist' and other great minds, like Carl Jung, in the best efforts to open the door to inward reflection with love guiding the way. I find it amazing how everyone is able to pull the same, but in different ways, positive and uplifting messages from this book that ultimately change their lives. When you sit down to read this book, be sure to have a highlighter and pencil ready to make notes, and in turn for reflection to spark deeper internal conversation.

Colm Holland beautifully unveils the magic hidden in The Alchemist, a book that shaped my spiritual life nearly 25 years ago. He's brought profound new meaning to the lessons of the "simple" story of Santiago by connecting his personal experiences with that story, and the intricate wisdom of ancient alchemy. I've learned so much!

Holland's writing exudes the message he's obviously lived for years: Let Love be the guide.

The Speaking Tree
5.0 out of 5 stars Better if titled as, 'The Alchemist' - A personal Journey and Transformation.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on February 4, 2021
This is quite a good read and the author has done his research. I also think there are quite a few people who this would actually help in dealing with childhood traumas, limiting beliefs. The author has put his own personal experiences in here and the world is richer for it.

I do think the title could have been different as stories such as the alchemist mean different things to different people and in fact different meanings emerge depending how you have moved on in life. Almost the way a work of art could be interpreted differently. Better if titled as, 'The Alchemist' - A personal Journey and Transformation as that is where lies his story and treasure.

'The Alchemist is one of my favourite stories of all time, so I was very excited to learn of this book by the man who helped make Paulo Coelho's bestselling vision as famous as it is today. Colm Holland's wonderful offering brings the magic and miracles hidden in the symbolism of this delightful tale to life, making it beautifully accessible to everyone. I have been blessed to meet Colm and I can vouch for the fact that he is truly an Alchemist who walks the path of love with sincerity and grace. 5.0 out of 5 stars An important coda to one of the most widely read books of the 20th century

I first read The Alchemist in 2001 whilst living in Dubai. It became a catalyst for many things in that decade, not least the privilege of meeting Paulo in London and re-connecting when in Rome 2005.

Fast forward to 2020 and the launch of Collum’s book about the SECRET of the Alchemist. Having read Colm’s book, I was finally was able to understand the meaning of the past, present & future. Thank you for being the catalyst, the light & now a friend.
