An empowering woman's tale of a girl who fights off the enslaving traditions of her village to pursue her true spiritual path, uncompromising through many arduous travels, discomforts, and dangers, even to the awakening and understanding of romantic attachments as she becomes a woman. Reveals a respect of self in world realities akin to Patrick Rothfuss' work, The Slow Regard for Silent Things. Tenderly wrought!

What a gem of a book! A precious gift, a work of art. The story is told in delicate, powerful prose, deeply humane.
It describes the journeys of a monk and a girl in a subtle way that drew me immediately into the story. It shows the deep yearning for the spiritual path that both characters seek, each in their unique and touching ways.
The style: A sequence of brief chapters with the inner voices of both, where the characters often express their emotions and thoughts about the same event. A powerful style figure.
I often felt a smile, sometimes tears. Both voices are so recognizable, so universal! I felt touched by the natural courage, the sincerity and growing self-reflection and wisdom of the two main characters.
I was also touched by the author's psychological maturity, his capacity for deep empathy with both characters. It was beautiful for me to see how, in spite of their different natures, they gradually come closer to each other. In the end they have a deep connection - and at the same time complete inner freedom.

A valuable book for yourself and a gift to make a friend very happy.

I just reread “Gem’s Story” after a gap of several years, and found it even more inspiring, thoughtful and spiritually deep than I did the first time. It is a timeless story of love and personal growth, full of experience of the world as well as inner and outer wisdom. I appreciate its combination of depth and simplicity. Its style reminds me of that of Paulo Coelho in his wonderful book “The Alchemist”. I highly recommend “Gem’s story” to spiritually-minded readers who wonder what life is all about.

I read this book few years ago when the author was still looking for a publisher.
He asked me to read and review it. So to help out I did. But then once I started reading I was captured by the story and could not put the book down till I had reached the end! I am very happy that it can now reach a larger readership so many may be inspired by this touching story.

I found it a very enlightening story. It reflects so many things
that people struggle with on the spiritual path.

What a lovely story. I just didn't want to put this book down and I was engaged until the very last page; never could I have imagined the ending. The writer took the reader on a picturesque journey of two people's spiritual development. They encountered all the issues that everyone else does in their journey but never was their any chastisement or guilt, which was encouraging to the reader. it's a story of hopefulness and grace, beautifully written.
