About the author
Terence Watts' early years were extremely fragmented in many ways, the upshot of which was problems with anxiety and self-confidence. This resulted in a highly colourful early employment record which included: TV and Radio engineer, tailor, postman, rock 'n' roll guitarist, carpet layer, furniture salesman, electronic engineer, fire extinguisher salesman, ballroom dance teacher, computer programmer, computer games writer - he found it difficult to stay in one situation for very long and always felt that he was searching for his 'niche'.
Then, when all who knew him had shaken their heads in despair a good few times, he discovered via a study course that he was more than 'a bit of a whiz' in the fascinating field of the human mind. Qualifying as a professional therapist in 1989, he soon had a full appointment book as well as being in demand for lectures in the UK and abroad, including Asia and the USA.
Writing about the human mind comes as easily to Terence as working with it; his self-help 'Warriors, Settlers & Nomads' book has helped many thousands of people now, and continues to be in demand by both therapists and 'ordinary' people alike. '7 Ways and 7 Days to Banish Your Anxiety', released in 2012 is based on the programme he devised to deal effectively with all forms of anxiety. 'The Secret Life of Love and Sex' proved to be extraordinarily popular from the moment it was published on June 17 2014. His latest book is 'BWRT: Reboot your life with BrainWorking Recursive Therapy' based on the astoundingly successful new therapy model he created in 2013 and which is in use all over the world and changing the face of psychotherapy.
With more than 35,000 session hours behind him, and first-hand experience of most of the problems which beset people in life, you can be certain that he knows what he's talking about.
Terence is the owner of the Essex Institute of Clinical Hypnosis, the Past Founder/Chair of the Association for Professional Hypnosis and Psychotherapy, and Principal of The Terence Watts BWRT Institute, UK.

Early in the book, there is a fascinating questionnaire to alert you to your specific personality - one you probably won’t know that you have - with respect to relationships. Terence then shows through a knowledge of common pitfalls, the role of genes, and his vast experience working with clients - how to develop satisfying lasting relationships.
On one level, we know that a ‘relationship’ is not always a useful or helpful word. We are simply in the process of ‘relating’ on an ongoing basis, and the ground continues to change, as we grow and evolve. Terence deals with these shifts and real problems, gives lucid advice, and better, plenty of clear examples of effective communication across a range of styles. You will know how to communicate best with your partner, and if you don’t have one, you will know how to communicate, so you find one – and keep them.
The keen attention to detail that author brings for communicating better in relationships is significant. He also puts into context the many years of evolution that are play a role in the competing desires that men and women often have, but feel they shouldn’t. He addresses how to not only prevent mistakes, but why self-acceptance and understanding are so critical. In fact, he argues persuasively that only by being true to who you are can you ultimately relate.
In showing how to communicate better, he shows you how to identify and strike up the communication between you and the ideal partner. Want to know the best partner for your personality? Terence shows you how to identify this using clear criteria - from the body language down to the way they speak to the dress code. Never again will you pick the wrong person because you know will be able to discern their type - and know whether it is a match for yours.
Want to know the two words to use, and the one to avoid when having an argument with your partner - to ensure you don’t get a divorce? Then delve into chapter nine.
Ultimately, the author guides you through the core of a lasting mutually satisfying relationship: self-acceptance and honesty of your own needs and desires, tempered with mindfulness of your bad habits - and a willingness to have enough behavioural flexibility to make things work.
Chapter ten delves into seven important factors to keep your relationship alive. This is an essential checklist of golden rules that is worth the price of the book alone, and is worthy of anyone’s time. The author not only brings many years of experience as a renowned therapist, but also a clear writing style that is easy to read – with proven advice that is simple to apply.
This is an honest book that does not shy away from how to initiate difficult conversations to deal with problems. The author understands the many problems that people have, but also the real-world skills they need to overcome them. The four situations the author suggests that you understand to prevent long term harmony (chapter thirteen) were quite eye opening, and yet, once you have read them, you will imagine how you ever managed without knowing them.
The author includes fascinating exercises that work powerfully with your subconscious, including his work with ‘virtual personas’. The benefits of this one set of techniques and its application cannot be over-estimated, and we should be profoundly grateful for the time the author has taken to develop, share and make these as accessible as possible.
The author’s experience and expertise in the area of relationships, sexual dysfunction and effective communication based on your personality make this a valuable practical book. It is rich, with nuggets of gold ready to be mined beneath the surface for the attentive reader.
The Secret Life of Love and Sex provides the reader with understanding and answers to the simply complicated world of relationships, sexual problems (difficulties) and our chosen love partner(s). Loaded with useful information delving into our instinctual needs, unique personality types and communication fallacies along with family roots and beliefs, this book gives the reader valuable insights and tools to resolve current entanglements and/or enhance future relationships.
Well, this just scratches the surface of the in depth material that is contained in this easy to read enjoyable book of knowledge that is a must for anyone who wants to develop stronger relationships with others and gain more personal happiness and fulfillment in their own life.
The Secret Life of Love and Sex is a must read for all professional therapists but also for anyone else who may have less than perfect relationships.

Here in this book he offers sound insight into the joys and pitfalls of relationships. This book allows the reader a deep understanding of themselves, their relationships, love and sex.
It is apparent from the off that Terence understands this subject inside out and so he should, he has worked for many thousands of hours with clients. He has also been awarded a coveted MCGI in recognition of his work in this area; yet this is an easy and fascinating book to read and time passes quickly while doing so. The Secret Life of Love and Sex is a book that will provide understanding whether you would like to improve your relationship or are just interested in this area of human nature.
The important point when considering this book is that you do not need to be a therapist to buy it and benefit from it. Terence has made this a book for all readers, although the therapist will undoubtedly find this book a useful addition to their library. As a working hypnotherapist, psychotherapist and trainer I read many books a year and it takes a lot to impress me, this book did.
Having the secret to sustaining a successful loving and sexual relationship may seem like a wonderful dream that only others have, not now after reading this book; the secret is out!
My honest advice buy it.
The book is extremely insightful and very down to earth in its approach making it an 'easy' and fascinating read, it is practical and very well written.
The book looks at different personality types, the differences between men and women, how to achieve a successful relationship and how to handle a break up and much more.
A book I wish I had many years ago and one that has already made me think differently about my own relationships, past and present. An excellent read
