Documenting Civil Rights history from post-WW II to 1960, one might suspect, is always a black-white story. Here Professor Randi Walker examines Seattle's much more complex struggle, mostly with Asians. The Seattle Council of Churches and the more informal group Christians and Friends for Racial Equality undertook several social reform efforts in hopes of shaping a public conscience in a secularized urban area. One focus is on the nature of women's leadership. Fully documented, Walker still tells stories in an excellent manner.
