Mark Townsend – is a wonderful combination of a Priest, Magician and Writer, who uses seemingly opposing forces as equal gifts in our search for the meaning of life. Mark has spoken and performed in Gothic Cathedrals and on the African Savannah, entertaining all; including Catholic Nuns and Massai Warriors. Last July he resigned from full time parish ministry to work as a writer and mystifier. He often uses his priestly experience as an 'Alternative Officiant' for various rites of passage without limiting himself to 'Christian' rituals. He creates meaningful services and blessings that reflect the spiritual path of his wide variety of clients.

For a book that had a religious foundation, it was a quick read. The chapters go back and forth between characters. It took awhile but I caught on. I believe that Hannah's story could be an entire book on its own.

This is not a light read. The detail of the differing story threads builds the story from a brothers' feud to the search for a daughter by her father. The back story's history is built through the chapters as Mark Townsend takes his characters through time and reveals secrets long thought forgotten. Definitely a thriller that requires readers to think and draw conclusions in the manner of Dan Brown's writing style.

A very good read. I'd not read any of this author's titles before so my TBR pile is going to get larger.

Thank you NetGalley and John Hunt Publishing for the eARC.
This is a very interesting read and a lot of it takes place in Amsterdam, which I loved, having spent time there. It's set in several time lines and countries with the main characters Eric and the daughter, Hannah, he's desperate to find. An ancient is scroll is also being sought by Eric, a scroll the Catholic Church is desperate to keep secret.
It's an excellent mystery, thought provoking and obviously well researched.
I loved Mark Townsend's final remarks and explanations, fascinating...
Definitely recommended!

This is a story with a religious foundation. There are three parts to the story, which crosses timeframes: Peter and Eric van Kroot are two brothers who hate each other but find a secret bond that ties them together and may possibly destroy the church; Hannah is an orphan in the hands of nuns who run the orphanage where she lives and who abuse her—and is Eric’s unknown (to him) daughter; the last concerns the secret that Eric and his brother share which might destroy the church. Once the story gets going, many new secrets/truths about the church and culture as well as the brothers and their lives across different timeframes emerge. It seemed difficult to see, as I read along, how they all could possibly come together, but they did in the end. Thus, I found the story confusing at times. I also felt that the story of Hannah had enough substance and interest in it to be a story in itself rather than part of a book. Still, the story is exciting and interesting, especially if you enjoy reading about secrets that can change things considerably. I received this from NetGalley to read and review.

There have been times when I've started a book, then put it down because I get bored with it. This is not the case with "The Traitor's Child." A riveting read! What more can I say that hasn't been said in the other reviews? Read the book, you won't be disappointed!

A page turner of a book that is a quick read but at times will challenge you. We are taken on a quest with Eric, the main character, as he attempts to unlock his family's history. The more he uncovers, the deeper the story goes. This novel is a good what if....and makes you look at the world a little bit differently. Some people will not agree and probably find this book heretical but please remember it is fiction.

Hannah is an orphan who suffers a great deal of abuse from the nuns at the convent where she was left. Across the globe, Eric is a man with a score to settle with his brother, Peter. Told in different time periods, the book is confusing to begin with as we aren't sure how these are all connected, but as it goes on we find out many secrets about the history of the church as well as Christianity and Judaism in this fanciful (yet realistic) re-telling of the weeks leading up to the crucifixion of Jesus. While my attention waned a little in the middle, the end was completely satisfying and brought everything together!
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!

Mark Townsend has really captured something with this one as i have been reading non stop since it first arrived earlier today. everything you want in a good book is there, superb plot, excellent characters and a well thought out storyline.
I find a naivety in the writing in some places which endears me even more to the author and the story and allows you to join with him as the story unfolds.
This is definitely an author who will get better and better.

I picked this book up and started to read the book from start to finish without being able to put it down. It is such an exciting story that I was not able to stop. Very interesting historical views on the story of Jesus, his followers, a lost child and her story. Highly recommended and very exciting.

Anyone who gives this book 2 stars has an agenda against Mr. Townsend - if you know anything about him you will know what that agenda consists of. This is such a filmable story! It is gripping and completely absorbing; I didn’t want it to end, to be honest. If you like Mark’s writing you will adore this. If you’re new to him please give it a try.

I loved this book from the very first charter. It is well written and tells more than one story, without making it difficult to read.
And it gives you food for thought and might challenge your believes.

I loved this book. It was a compelling read. So many interesting characters. As a Buddhist I am convinced that Jesus and Sakyamuni (the Buddha) shared a similar message. A message of loving kindness and connectedness.

I wanted to know more about Hannah / Maggie and all of the characters ... spin offs maybe?
