Pagan Portals - Frigg: Beloved Queen of Asgard Kindle Edition

3.6 3.6 out of 5 stars 5 ratings

'Great scholarship and personal style blend syncretic in Frigg, a book which staands out as both a homage to the goddess and a guide for those seeking her.' Daniela Simina, author of Where Fairies Meet: Parallels between Irish and Romanian Fairy Traditions

The Norse goddess Frigg is known to have influence over many roles. She is a goddess of marriage and children, but she is also a goddess of fate and cunning. Frigg is a goddess of domestic activities, and she is a goddess of healing. She is a goddess of both love and peace. As the Queen of Asgard, Frigg tends to a court of 12 handmaidens, each having their own distinct qualities. This introductory book examines Frigg’s history, functions, relationships, and ways to honor her in our modern times.

Review

For anyone who seeks to connect with Frigg, whether just getting to know this powerful deity or seeking to delve deeper, Ryan's McClain's book is a great resource. From the first literary mentions of Frigg to a modern day understanding o her, McClain takes the reader on a journey in which he uncovers every aspect of this deity. The book gives thorough consideration to both Germanic and Norse sources while beautifully weaving in the author's personal gnosis. Great scholarship and personal style blend syncretic in Frigg, a book which staands out as both a homage to the goddess and a guide for those seeking her. -- Daniela Simina, author of Where Fairies Meet: Parallels between Irish and Romanian Fairy Traditions

Ryan McClain sets in his book the base for a first approach to Frigg. If you follow the arrows he leaves for the seekers in these pages, I’m sure they will find enough to later go deeper in the right direction. -- Ness Bosch, Priestess and Shamaness

McClain's Frigg is a fascinating insight into this Nordic Goddess. A welcomed balance between historical fact and the author's own opinions and experiences, this book will suit those who appreciate a scholarly approach and those who enjoy learning from others' experiences. A great book for both beginners and those already familiar with this Goddess, there is much to be learned within the pages of McClain's well-written dedication to such an influential figure in Norse mythology. -- Jessica Howard, author of The Art of Lithomancy and The Water Witch: An Introduction To Water Witchcraft

I'm not an expert in Norse religions and Frigg is a name that I knew from reading poems and novels.

A great introduction to Frigg. Well-written and researched, and easy to read and understand. I especially liked that each chapter is ended with McClain’s own take on what was discussed in that chapter. The historical sources that were examined are broken down in a way that even if you aren’t very familiar with them, you can understand them. Personally, I found the roles and symbols of Frigg to be the most interesting chapter, because while I’m somewhat familiar with the myths, I don’t often dive as deep into some deities. If you’re looking for an introduction to the goddess Frigg, the myths, or even how to begin connecting with her and working with her, this is a great resource!

This is a new volume in the very useful and well written Pagan Portal series. If you want an introduction to Frigga, wife of Odin/Woden and mother of the Aesir, this is the book to get. Well written and interesting.
