3.4 3.4 out of 5 stars 4 ratings

Whilst a young woman, at a pivotal time in her life, Fiona C. Odgren met George. She quickly realized that not only was he to become her spiritual mentor, but also her lifelong partner. During their budding relationship, George placed many reads in front of her and amongst them was "The Mahatma Letters". Life would never be the same again. Insights From the Masters is a compilation of "The Mahatma Letters", a remarkable correspondence that took place between two Masters, Koot Humi and Morya, and two influential British men. The Letters are currently held in the British Library, London, UK. With this compilation the author has taken what she considers to be the most interesting themes regarding esoteric knowledge presented by the Masters and made their teachings more accessible to the public. The Letters contain answers on subjects relating to Birth and Death, truth on After-Life and Reincarnation, Occult Science and Phenomena, Karma and Dharma etc. and all while portraying the unconditional love and humour of these advanced souls. The subjects covered are extensive and cover most of the burning questions of today’s true seeker.

all sorts of sources quoted - some good some nonsense

Insights From the Masters: A Compilation by Fiona C. Odgren is a compilation of excerpts from letters between two Himalayan Masters (Koot Hoomi and Morya) and two British men (Alfred Percy Sinnett and Arthur Octavian Hume) which were on some occasions sent and received clairvoyantly by H. P. Blavatsky. These letters are among the central works of Theosophy.

This book breaks up the excerpts from the letters by subject. There are subjects such as Atlantis and Lumeria, The Universal Mind and Consciousness, and Reincarnation among many others. Being that I have never read anything on Theosophy I found this to be an interesting work and appreciated how the excerpts were broken up. The forward gives wonderful background information on the letters and their authors. As for the excerpts themselves I found them to be able to make one look at the many ideas in a new way than perhaps one had done before. I think it was nice that there was no commentary other than the letters themselves as it helps one to attain their meaning through ones own understanding of the concepts.
I would recommend this book to those interested in Theosophy and it’s ideas.

I acknowledge that I received a copy of this book free of charge from Netgalley.
