Coaching often leads to a mind shift, a change in perspective. It’s not about maintaining the status quo but about diving deeper, gaining clarity, understanding oneself, becoming more authentic, and encountering truth. This mind shift is an epiphany moment - a moment of discovery, good or bad - that shatters old ways of thinking and sets the future in motion. Though typically associated with religious experience or literature, epiphanies are foundational to coaching, ensuring that the coach and client enter a shared transformational process.
Unlocking Epiphany Moments: A Primer for Life Coaches and Other Inner Guides represents an unexplored field relevant to anyone who provides inner guidance. Dr. Stewart claims that epiphanies offer a framework for generating meaning, providing a 'GPS' for the maze of life and allowing clients to deepen their exploration into their motivations and options and the forces that block them. This book defines various epiphanies while exploring the skills and strategies that coaches can cultivate to facilitate such powerful moments.

An extremely creatively written book, incorporating ancient philosophy, poetry, and other wisdom works. What's below the surface? As coaches, we are trained to identify and listen for what is at the core of the issue. As individuals, we often don't go deep enough to find out. I love how Elizabeth-Anne has not just started the conversation around these epiphany moments but has also defined and persisted there so that we can feel comfortable navigating in this space. I graduated from ThrivingTogether, an ICF-certified coach training program at Catholic Theological Union (CTU). This course has been helpful in many ways in my work as a parish priest. People come to see me, seeking a human connection to help them see clearly the situations they find themselves in. They could search the internet for AI based solutions to their dilemmas, if all they desired was a computer printout to lead them from Point A to Point B. It has been my experience, that in seeking out a coach, or a pastoral person, the client is desirous of a human connection to accompany them in their exploration of their life’s challenges. Computers can give efficient answers, but they are incapable of entering into heart speaking to heart communication. Dr.Stewart illustrates clearly the distinction between the AI BOT and the fully engaged human coach. Her book is filled with gems of practical knowledge available to both human and AI. The richness found in Chapter 15 points to what can only be found in the human coaching experience, that is the role of the “spirit” which provides inspiration to the overall dynamic between coach and client. ~ Rev. Brian G. Bricker, O.P. Associate Pastor, St. Pius V Church, Chicago, IL.
